Weather Cancellations

The Freeland Community School District believes that instructional days are important, secondary only to the safety of our students.  We would never be in session when we believed we could not care for your children.  On a day like today, when many schools are not in session, but Freeland is, we wanted to share some helpful things for you to know about snow related closures:

School cancellation decisions are made solely based on our ability to safely transport students

Freeland Schools will always cancel during a Winter Storm Warning

Closures are typically called as soon as the District is confident that we will not be able to safely transport students to or from school

Closures may be called the night before, however, a decision should always be made by 5:00 a.m. the morning of

Decisions are made by the superintendent of schools after the following have occurred:

o    Driving roads by the superintendent and/or the transportation director

o    Consultation with other school districts as to the conditions of their roads

o    Review of information from the National Weather Service (NOAA)   https://www.noaa.gov/ as the guideline for weather related decisions

I hope this helps you understand how decisions were made earlier this week, for today, and in the future.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 989.695.5527 or at cairym@freelandschools.net.
