Students at the Freeland Learning Center are having fun during the Homecoming Spirit Week celebrating their school spirit. Today they had a chance to participate in a mismatch day. Mission accomplished! Nice job Mrs. Simon’s kindergarten class.

Students in Mrs. Griffin’s first grade class concluded their citizenship unit study with a friendship salad. Each student contributed a fruit which represented a characteristic of a good citizen. What a yummy way to learn!

Students at the Freeland Learning Center participated in the annual Hats on for Cancer Day this Friday. Thank you to all of the students who were able to bring in a donation going towards our Freeland Clash for a Cure fundraiser. We hope to see all of you at the Clash for a Cure football game between the Freeland varsity team and the Essexville Garber team taking place tonight. Go Falcons!

Today was National Administrative Professionals Day! We celebrated Mrs. Dammer and Mrs. Rapin, our office professionals, with small tokens of our appreciation. We are blessed to have them both in our building as they always go above and beyond for all of our students, their families and all of our staff. Thank you for being amazing each and every day. We truly appreciate you and all you do for all of us!

Students at the Freeland Learning Center learn all about Cascarones in their Spanish class. Cascarones are eggs filled with confetti. The cascarones are a part of an Easter tradition from Mexico. People break cascarones over the heads of their family and friends on Easter. Cascarones bring good luck! We wish you lots of good luck Senora Zwerk!

Thank you Keiven Trombley Agency of Meemic Insurance for your generous educational grant. The 54 Tube Boomwhackers Classroom Pack you donated to our school will be a great addition to the Freeland Learning Center music classroom. Students will have a great time creating music with these fun instruments!

Macy K. one of the first graders in Mrs. Miller’s class was drawn as the winner of a gift card for the Barton Woods kindness challenge. Instead of using the gift card for herself, she told her dad that she wanted to use it to buy her class a pizza party. What a great example of spreading KINDNESS!

Did you know that March 21st was World Down Syndrome Day? It is a day to celebrate and advocate for people with Down Syndrome. The date of 3/21 represents the genetic makeup of down syndrome - three copies of chromosome 21, instead of two. Many staff and students “rocked” their mismatched socks to celebrate the day!

At the Freeland Learning Center, this week in health class, Mrs. Huckeby taught students about filling their minds with positive thoughts. The Y5, K and 1st grade students helped in coloring the class motto - You are kind. You are smart. You can do BIG things! Pictured with the finished project are Mrs. Harvey’s first grade students.

Mrs. Miller’s first grade class welcomed Sergeant Heather Beyerlein from the Saginaw County Sheriff’s Office as a guest reader for March is Reading Month. Sergeant Beyerlein read a book about what police officers do to help people, explained many things about being a police officer, and answered a lot of questions about her career. Thank you, Sergeant Beyerlein!

Mrs. Neering’s first grade class participated in Random Acts of kindness during the month of March. They created tie dye socks for Freeland Learning Center staff and had a sock drive for a local shelter. What a great way to spread some kindness around!

This week, Freeland Learning Center is highlighting one of our 1st grade teachers, Mrs. Gwen Neering. Mrs. Neering is in her 4th year teaching in Freeland and in her 23rd year in education. She is always creating hands-on activities for the students to enhance their learning experiences as she is committed to engaging all types of learners in her lessons. She also inspires students to be kind to others and those serving or those in need in their community by reaching out to them with creative ways to show their appreciation and support. When asked what she finds most rewarding about her position, Mrs. Neering said, “The most rewarding part of my job is seeing all of the first grade students’ smiling faces walking through my door every morning. First graders are amazing little people. They love learning and sharing what they know. It makes my heart happy to see the excitement in their eyes as we build the foundation for success for the school years to come.” Mrs. Neering also shared that Freeland is an amazing place to work. Freeland parents are very supportive and actively involved in the educational process of their child. It is exciting to teach in a community where education is the top priority of all members within the district and in the community. I am very proud to have been chosen to be a part of the Freeland Community School District team. Mrs. Griffin’s first grade class celebrated the special Tuesday date by wearing Tutus and Ties for 2-22-22. What a great way to have fun and mark this special date!

Mrs. Neering’s first grade class is rocking their tie dye socks! What a creative way to learn how to follow directions and create colorful socks to enjoy on Valentine’s Day or any other day.

Mrs. Harvey’s first grade class made wonderful valentines for the residents of Barton Woods. What a great way to spread some cheer on Valentine’s Day!

Mrs. Miller’s first grade class is creating “hug machines” for the residents of Barton Woods to spread some kindness and wish them a Happy Valentine’s Day! What a thoughtful way to share creative talents!

We had a lot of fun today celebrating the 100th day of school at the Learning Center.

It is hard to believe that the 100th day of school is here! Even though the official 100th day of school will be Monday, due to the snow day we had earlier this week, the staff and students at the Learning Center had fun with their planned celebrations today!

So... we had a special visitor at the Freeland Learning Center today. We have all worked on being very good this year and it was nice having Santa visit us today. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone!

Mrs. Neering celebrated her students today for spreading kindness and joy to others in their class. From a student who wrote a personal letter to all of her classmates to a student who shared small gifts with all just to spread some holiday joy. What a great way to spread kindness!
