Last week, our 5th grade science students participated in a Design Challenge. Students were faced with the problem of dropping a vehicle from 1 to 2 feet while keeping their marshmallow aliens in the cup without falling out. They had to consider the constraints and criteria of the challenge when designing their vehicle, as well as practice collaborative skills. Overall, they all had fun regardless of whether or not the vehicles met the goal.

In the spirit of the big MSU vs. U of M game this past Saturday, Ms. Cereske's 5th grade students competed and played “football”, reading class style, to represent their favorite team. The students discussed what it meant to be a good sport and practiced sportsmanship while reviewing what they've learned so far during their novel study on the book, “Insignificant Events In The Life of A Cactus”. Students had a lot of fun working as a team to get first downs, and they even scored a couple of touchdowns for each team!

Congratulations to this week's group of SOARing students at Freeland Elementary School! Way to go Falcons!

Mrs. Dake's 5th grade Social Studies classes designed and created their own totem poles this week!

Homecoming Friday at Freeland Elementary School got off to an amazing start today! The football players, pommers, and cheerleaders paid a special visit and introduced themselves to the student body and got the students excited about tonight's festivities. We'd like to send a special thanks to our high school student-athletes for taking time out of their big day to spend it with our younger Falcons!

Congratulations to October's first group of SOARing students at Freeland Elementary! Included are a few pictures of those students that picked time with Basil as their reward. Keep up the great work Falcons!

Our 4th grade students had the opportunity to learn about how electrical energy is created and delivered. Some even acted as parts of the electrical system in order to demonstrate how power is generated at a Consumers Energy plant. In addition, every 4th grader got to take home their own energy saving kit!

Mrs. Bowen's class was hard at work in STEM class earlier this week!

Congratulations to our final two groups of SOARing students at Freeland Elementary for the month of September! Keep up the great work Falcons!

Here are more photos of Lewy’s Friday at Freeland Elementary School, this time paying a visit to Mrs. Quast’s 3rd grade classroom.

Clash for a Cure Hat Day ~ Mrs. Williams' 2nd grade class took a moment to show off their school spirit today!

Lewy, one of our amazing therapy dogs, spent some time at Freeland Elementary School today. He visited classrooms and also hung out with some of our SOARing students. Thanks Lewy!

Mrs. Quast’s 3rd grade class and Mr. Eaton’s 4th grade music classes were captured performing their original compositions in “Composition Fest”. After watching STOMP, students came up with their own rhythms and melodies using various instruments and found sound objects in the classroom. There were a variety of musical styles and some very creative use of instruments and newly found sound objects! Fun was had by all, and the students were literal rockstars!

Freeland Elementary School students enjoyed Friday's classroom visits from Blue, one of three therapy dogs that spend time at our school. Some students even chose time with Blue as their prize for being a SOAR student!

Congratulations to this year's first group of SOARing students at Freeland Elementary School! Great job Falcons!

Students in Mrs. Somers' 5th grade Science class began the year using their teamwork and problem solving skills to find potential solutions during two activities. They did amazing! Keep up the great work Falcons!

Sixth-grade students visited the township's Department of Public Works this week to learn about our local engineered water system and how it works alongside our natural water cycle to provide us with clean, usable water from our local watershed.

Mrs. Szafranski volunteered to do Junior Achievement in a few 2nd grade classrooms at Freeland Elementary School. The students had a great learning experience! Thank you Mrs. Szafranski!

Second grade classes enjoyed a field trip to the Saginaw Zoo on Wednesday. Everyone enjoyed the animals, the playground, and riding the train and carousel!
