Mrs. Henning’s 5th grade science students are creating models to demonstrate the movement of water through the ground. The students built models and used them to demonstrate how different levels of precipitation, drought, overuse, and pollution impact the groundwater.
Freeland Elementary School 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Somers, was the lucky recipient of Meemic's PopIn2Win grant during the month of November. She just received the Classroom PPE Kit and feels fortunate to have been given supplies that will continue to keep her 5th grade students safe while continuing in-person learning. Thank you Meemic and their partner W.B. Mason!

Mrs. Somers' 5th graders were hard at work in Science deciding which emulsifier (food additive) would make the best salad dressing!
Fifth graders in Mrs. Henning's science classes are investigating to see what substances might help oil and water stay mixed together in salad dressings. Students tested flour, cornstarch, and lecithin as emulsifiers to see if they could get oil and water to make a stable mixture.
6th graders were working on their engineering skills in the snow today!
Our 6th grade student council sponsored our annual food drive again this year, and despite the shorter than normal collection window due to remote learning, our families came through in a big way, as always! Student council members helped organize and load all of the items that were collected. Thank you to everyone that was able to donate!
Here are a few more pictures of Mrs. Quast's 3rd graders and Mrs. Irish's 5th graders on Ugly Sweater/Shirt Day!
Today is Ugly Sweater/Shirt Day at the Elementary School. Here are a few pictures of 2nd graders in Mr. Gusler and Mrs. Williams' classes!
Today is Ugly Sweater/Shirt Day at the Elementary School. Here are a few pictures of Mrs. Crook's 4th graders and Mrs. Somers' 5th graders!
Who needs snow?! Fifth graders had some pre-holiday fun while challenged to design and build the tallest snowman using only flimsy sheets of paper and tape. Students had to persevere to revise their designs and problem solve to engineer a strong and stable, free-standing paper snowman.
Freeland Elementary School students brought bows to school on Monday, and our 6th grade student council did an amazing job of stringing them together to add some holiday décor to the building!
4th grade students in Mrs. Crook's class are busy working on Christmas cards and letters for the residents at Barton Woods Assisted Living and Stone Crest Assisted Living. They love spreading holiday cheer!!
Students in STEM class started to explore trajectory and the conservation and transfer of energy using slingshots and Stomp Rockets. Thank you to DuPont-Hemlock site for donating them for our classroom! We have all had a BLAST being back this week!
The students in Mrs. Dake’s 5th grade classes completed the Native American Homes STEM Challenge. Students were asked to build a dwelling from one of the regions they studied. The challenge was to accurately create a model using only specific items, which were mainly natural supplies found outside. These were displayed throughout the week outside of the cafeteria!
Mrs. Sturtz's class (Freeland Elementary) made some great leaf etchings today!
Fifth graders are separating different substances from liquid food coloring mixtures using chromatography in science!
This week, Mrs. Somers & Mrs. McKee's 5th grade classes investigated matter while using our new Amplify Science curriculum!
In a matter of minutes, 5th graders in Mrs. Henning's class are able to collect a month's worth of data watching star movements using the simulation in science. The simulation tool models how stars move across the sky each night, as well as how the Earth's orbit allows us to see different constellations throughout a year. Even Mrs. Hathaway got in on the action to investigate the patterns of stars in the night sky. Our parapros are the best!
Mrs. Quast's students shared their second opinion essays with one another today. Are store-bought or homemade costumes better?
Mrs. Benkert's 2nd grade class was busy on Fun Friday. First, we had mindfulness with food tasting, concentrating on one thing at a time with Mrs. Seliskar, and then we finished our small group instruction with a popcorn treat after reading about popcorn. Learning and having fun at its best!
